How to add music to a video

Music is usually the last thing a cut needs and the thing most tools charge for. In Emaki Studio you add your own audio file, trim it against the video and mix it with the sound already in your clips - in the browser, with nothing uploaded. Here is how.

  1. 1. Get the cut right first Add and trim your clips and put them in order. Music is worth adding once the length has settled, because a track trimmed to a timeline you then change has to be trimmed again.
  2. 2. Add your audio file Add the music from your device. It goes onto its own lane, so it sits under the whole video rather than being tied to one clip.
  3. 3. Trim the track to the video Drag the audio to set where it starts and pull its ends to set how much of it plays. Starting a few seconds into a track often works better than starting at its beginning.
  4. 4. Balance it against the original sound Your clips keep their own audio, so set the levels between the two - music under a piece to camera wants to sit well below the voice. Two audio layers are free, which is what a video plus a music bed needs.
  5. 5. Export Export an MP4 with the audio mixed in. Nothing was uploaded, and there is no watermark.

Is adding music free?
Yes. Adding your own audio and mixing two layers is free - enough for a video plus a music bed. More lanes than that, and recording a voiceover, are Pro.
Does Emaki Studio provide the music?
No. You bring your own audio file. Use music you have the right to post - platforms check uploaded audio against rights databases, and a track you do not have a licence for can get the post muted or taken down.
Can I keep the sound from my clips as well?
Yes. The original audio stays and is mixed with the music, so you can set how loud each one is rather than choosing between them. Transitions crossfade the audio along with the picture instead of cutting it abruptly.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. The audio is read and mixed on your device like everything else. There is no account and no server.
