How to take photos with a film filter

Applying a filter afterwards is guesswork - you frame the shot for one look and get another. The Emaki Studio camera puts the film look in the viewfinder itself, so you compose and expose for the picture you are actually going to keep. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install. Here is how.

1. 1. Open the camera and allow access Your browser asks for camera permission the first time. The video feed is processed on your device and never sent anywhere - there is no upload and no account.
2. 2. Pick a look Spin the dial under the viewfinder through the film looks - each one is applied to the live preview, not just the saved file. Run past them while pointing at your subject to see which the scene actually suits.
3. 3. Frame the shot The row under the dial chooses what the dial sets, so framing, self-timer, file format and capture mode are each one tap away. Switch between front and rear cameras or lenses beside the shutter, and turn on the framing aids (grid, level) if you want the horizon straight.
4. 4. Take control of the exposure Tap to set focus and exposure on your subject, and lock the focus with AF-L beside the shutter. Open the adjustments, arm a parameter and drag anywhere over the viewfinder to scrub it - on devices that expose the hardware dials you get real ISO, shutter and white balance, and a digital grade everywhere else.
5. 5. Save it, or keep editing Save the shot straight to your device, or send it into Film Lab with the look intact to fine-tune the tone, crop and grain before exporting.

Do I need to install an app?

No. The camera runs in your mobile or desktop browser. You can add Emaki Studio to your home screen if you want it to open like an app.

Is there an iPhone camera app?

Yes - EMST Camera, on the App Store. It is a companion to this page rather than a copy of it: a native film camera for iPhone, built only for shooting, with photos saved straight to your library and nothing sent anywhere. The browser camera here keeps working on every device.

Is the filter baked into the photo?

Yes - what you see in the viewfinder is what gets saved. If you would rather keep tuning it, open the shot in Film Lab, where the same look stays fully adjustable.

Does the camera work on a computer?

Yes, with any webcam. Manual hardware controls (ISO, shutter, white balance) appear only where the device and browser expose them - on other devices the same adjustments are applied digitally.

Are my photos uploaded?

Never. The frames are processed and saved on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account to create.
