How to blur a face in a photo

Before you share a photo, you often need to hide something in it - a face, a name, a licence plate. The Emaki Studio Redact tool lets you draw over anything sensitive and pixelate, blur or cover it, all in your browser so the photo is never uploaded. Here is how.

1. Open Redact and add your photo Open the Redact tool and drop in your photo. It is processed entirely on your device, which is exactly what you want for a sensitive image - nothing is sent to a server.
2. Draw over what you want to hide Pick the Rectangle tool for text or a sign, or the Radial tool for a face, and drag an area over it. Add as many areas as you need to cover everything.
3. Choose pixelate, blur or a colour Switch between Pixelate, Blur and Color, and use the Strength slider to make the effect as heavy as you like. Blur and pixelate keep the photo looking natural; a solid colour hides the area completely.
4. Move or resize any area Drag an area to reposition it, or drag its handles to resize, so it lines up exactly over the face. Tap an area and press Delete to remove it, or Clear to start over.
5. Export the redacted photo Export a full-resolution PNG with the redactions baked permanently in. The covered areas cannot be recovered from the exported file, so keep your original if you want an unedited copy.
